What on earth happened to BicycleNorthwest? Well, a lot of things, but we promise we haven't dropped off of the face of the earth. On the contrary, we're more involved with the cycling community than ever before!
In the time since you last heard from us there's been lots of dreaming and scheming and dotted-line signing, till February 15 '08 when the doors were opened on Scotty's long-awaited enterprise. And its name is uBRDO Cycle and Mountain Supply!
Stop by and check us out! We're in the heart of Kirkland on Central Ave at Lake Street, right behind the Cow and Coyote statue. We've got a choice selection of bikes and outdoor equipment and clothing, plus a full-service shop.
And if you haven't already you can expect to see our van and tent at local events and races, currently including Seattle Cyclocross, where we'll be supporting the lads and ladies of the uBRDO Team Project! Solid.

A field of 24 professional cyclists took to the steep wood boards of the Burnaby Velodrome on New Years Eve to kick off six nights of intense racing action at the Burnaby Six Day track race. Slipstream was plagued by series of mechanicals in the second Madison and did well to only lose one lap to Symmetrics... Continue reading...

The Seattle Cyclocross Series Finals were this past weekend; we are still waiting for our coverage to come in, but in the meantime... Continue reading...

The seventh installment of the Seattle Cyclocross Series was held today under clear skies with plenty of sun. The only thing falling from above was jet wash from the never ending departure of commercial airliners. But that didn't phase any of the riders in the Men's 1/2 category race. The talented field also included a special guest appearance of northwest native Tyler Ferrar. Continue reading...

The Washington State Cyclocross Championships took place this past weekend in Bremerton, just an hour's ferry ride from the downtown Seattle waterfront, and there was some fantastic racing throughout the day. Here is the first of our articles on the day's events along with a gallery of pictures. Continue reading...

Evan Schmitt, a former member of Rad Racing NW youth racing program, parked the bike for a season in order to bring us a great film entitled One. The film was shot, produced, and narrated entirely by the sixteen year old over the course of the 2006 season.

The first major event of the winter track racing season has concluded at the Burnaby Velodrome. With a record high of over 80 racers throughout all categories including women and new racers, it was an enormous success. The A category turned into an epic battle between two heavyweights.

Burnaby is a short track and it's smart to run a small gear to save your legs with high leg speed. I did not heed this advice - running a larger gear than most and paying for it as the night went on. I had the power to sprint, but the slow steady grind of trying to keep my cadence up started to burn matches I didn't have.

I don't think anyone had any idea of just how epic the next twenty-four hours were going to be. WWU Cycling was heading to Banner Elk, NC with big plans. All the planning had come to an end and there was only one thing left to do: race our bicycles...

This week we continue our Meet the Teams profiles after a bit of a hiatus with our first Portland team: Ironclad Racing. The 2008 season will be Ironclad's second racing in the pelotons of the Northwest, and they'll be looking to take a big step forward. Dave Aldersebaes, founder of Ironclad Racing took time out of his schedule to talk with BicycleNorthwest about this new team, its inaugural season, and their plans for the future. We're hoping that this is the first of many Oregon-based team profiles.

COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA - Saturday November 3, 2007 marked the end to the FloraGLO Cyclocross BC Cup series and the cyclocross race season in the Greater Vancouver area. Racers were welcomed to the venue, a classic Euro-style cyclocross course at Coquitlam's Town Centre Park, with some very typical November West Coast weather: driving rain, wind and cool, hypothermia inducing temperatures.

ESTACADA, OR - Three o'clock in the afternoon rolled around after an exciting day of 'cross racing. The course was primed and ready, and as the sun poked through the dissipating clouds, the course dried up and became tacky. The stage was set for what would surely be a hijinx-filled race. The race organizers had taken the time to set up several top-secret sections of the course that would be revealed to racers only after the starting gun sounded. But the race organizers had a pre-race surprise in store for participants as well...

AUBURN, WASHINGTON - The Seattle CyclocrossSeries, Race Number Five took place at Donida Farm, an eighty acre horse facility just south of the city of Auburn. The facility was in a beautiful setting and the fall colours set a serene backdrop for some great 'cross racing.

This week brings us one of our final Meet the Teams profiles for 2007. We've got a few requests pending still, and if you have a team you'd like us to profile and found we haven't asked, just let us know! As for this week's team - Team Group Health - we were able to speak with Dana Robertson-Halter. She filled us in on her teams astounding successes from 2007 both on, and off the race course.
